It also serves as an excellent year-end goal to work towards. Our students look forward to this event and love to share their love of music and their newly acquired skills. Our private concert is held in a more intimate hall with great acoustics. This event is free to attend for family and friends!

Junior Original Concert

The Junior Original Concert (JOC) is a unique activity in which Yamaha Music Education System students, under the age of 15, perform their own original compositions. The JOC was established by Genichi Kawakami, former Chairman of the Yamaha Music Foundation, in order to develop the limitless creativity and ideas of children.
In addition to studying previously published music, students of Yamaha Music Schools are encouraged to express themselves with their own music. This is one of the basic tenets of the Yamaha Music School philosophy.

In other approaches to music learning, children show what they have learned by means of formal recitals where they perform standard pieces. At Yamaha Music Schools, children also have the opportunity to present, in concert form, their own compositions. Based on this philosophy, the Junior Original Concerts are held at various levels, making them national and international musical events.

Yamaha Grade Examinations

The Yamaha Grade Examination System was started with the purpose of enabling everyone who is learning music to improve their musical skills in a well-planned manner while verifying overall ability. Yamaha Grade exams are graded in descending order from 13-1. Grade 13-6 is for student grade and Grade 5-3 is for teacher grade and Grade 2-1 is honorary grade. They are a perfect benchmark for setting future goals and to check achievement of the curriculum.

The Yamaha Grade exams are offered in over 40 countries around the world and have been around since 1967. More than 10 million people have taken this exam internationally. Sonata is one of the Yamaha exam center which hosts exams for students in December and May scheduled by Yamaha Canada.

Different from other music exam system, Yamaha Grade Examinations helps music learners to confirm their musical abilities and encourage them to acquire well rounded musical abilities so that they can enjoy creating and performing music.
